OPERA, PAGANS AND SALSA

Gian Carlo Menotti, best known for his Christmas classic, Amahl and the Night Visitors, would have been 100 this year. As part of National Opera Week, Opera Idaho is celebrating the prolific librettist's life with a free concert Friday, Nov. 4, featuring selections from Menotti 's works.

Company members who will perform include Michele Detwiler, Amanda GardnerPorter and Andrew Peck. The concert is free and starts at 7:30 p.m. at Opera Idaho.

Scientists at University of California Report Research in Headache and Migraine.

"The clinical and radiographic manifestations of spontaneous intracranial hypotension are highly variable and many patients do not satisfy the 2004 International Classification of Headache Disorders criteria," scientists writing in the journal Headache report (see also Headache and Migraine).

"We developed new diagnostic criteria for spontaneous intracranial hypotension based on cases we have seen reflecting the variable manifestations of the disorder. These criteria provide a basis for change when the classification criteria are next revised," wrote W.I. Schievink and colleagues, University of California.

The storybook Dean Wilkins was writing was at first bound tightly, then torn slightly, then ripped wide open.

Wilkins, making his first Double-A appearance, owned a 5-1 lead for the Albany-Colonie Yankees Wednesday night. The lead, like Wilkins' debut, was ruined by Rick Hopkins, Doug Dascenzo and Laddie Renfroe, the three main guns in Pittsfield's 6-5 Eastern League victory at Wahconah Park.
